We can write anywhere and everywhere. Despite this ability it is always great to have a special place dedicated to writing. It might not be a desk or even inside the house. You might prefer noise to silence or cool to warm. Just remember to make it yours and make sure it works.
When I first began writing, the stories just seemed to write themselves. Words formed from the imagery inside my head and fantastical worlds seemed to come alive. I was young and entirely inexperienced, but still I thought I was a great writer in my own mind.
Since then I have realized that most of those little stories were too fantastical, unable to be engaged with unless you had an equally undefined imagination. As I grew older and gathered more experience writing, I soon sought after ways to create more believable stories. The internet became a common ally. I discovered that if I surrounded myself with a bit of research, coupled with a sense of reality, my writing became more readable. I was soon creating pieces of text that someone (other than myself) might have actually read and enjoyed.
In doing research on real topics, I found that a sense of real life found its own way into the stories and lives of the characters I was creating. I think that if the story is depicted as real to the reader, it will become somewhat real in their imagination. This is what I believe all fiction writers should strive to accomplish. It's what I strive for every day.
The Simplified Formula:
Research & Reality + Fictional Idea + Writing = A Realistic Fictional Story
